The Giant of Marathon (1959)

Italian-French ancient-war film from 1959 (original title La battaglia di Maratona), directed by Jacques Tourneur with Mario Bava as cinematographer and co-director, produced by Titanus, Galatea Film and partners and released in the US by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Steve Reeves (Mr. America 1947, Mr. Universe 1950) plays Phillipides, an Olympic champion put in command of the Athenian forces, against the backdrop of the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC; Mylène Demongeot co-stars. This copy was uploaded to the Internet Archive by Classic Cinema Online (649×480, about 84 minutes) and is marked "1959 Public Domain" on the record. Under Article 23 of China's Copyright Law and Section 22 of Malaysia's Copyright Act 1987 the film entered the public domain 50 years after first publication; its US renewal status has not been verified and it will be taken down on receipt of a rights objection.
